A Tribute to my Idol, Coco Chanel

My love affair with Chanel began at a young age, being that my mother always had a fascination for the brand. Chanel and I were destined to go together like two peas in a pod; her associates even gifted her a classic black Chanel 2.55 bag the day I was born. I'm telling you, it was destiny. Since I was a kid I've coveted anything Chanel, read all the mini books, articles, seen the documentaries, the films, and drooled over everything Kaiser Karl has done with the house.

It is rumored, that the second Duke of Westminster, Hugh Richard Arthur Grosvenor, was so awe-struck by Mademoiselle 'Coco' Chanel back in the 20's after they met at a party in Monte Carlo in 1925, that he ordered all the lampposts in Westminster to be adorned with her initials, alongside an ornate W - his crest. Yet he was left heartbroken when, despite his grandiose gesture, Chanel turned his proposal of marriage down telling him: "There have been several Duchesses of Westminster, there is only one Chanel". I guess that told him.

Apart from her love affairs, Chanel was also known for her pearls too. What many may not know, is that she was known just as well for her love of diamonds - the other lustrous gem in her life. The Couture house has just released a video that tells the story of how in 1932, Chanel created her first and only collection dedicated solely to diamonds. It tells the process of eliminating the need for clasps, allowing the diamonds to be mounted almost invisibly to asterisk and shooting-star shapes. In doing so, Coco paved the way for a whole new style of fine jewelry. She claims that she wanted to shower women in constellations. Watch the story of Bijoux de Diamants below, I promise you won't be able to look away!

Cheers! The Aristochic
