Spent the day running missions around town with a ma petit Karla, and stumbled upon this little gem called "Love Poems" by Pablo Neruda while browsing at Anthropologie. I'm a huge fan of Neruda's and one poem caught my eye and I knew that I had to have this collection of poems.
The book features the original poem in Spanish and the translation on the opposite page. Below find one of my favorites called La Reina (The Queen).
La Reina The Queen
Yo te he nombrado reina. I have named you queen.
Hay mas altas que tu, mas altas. There are taller ones than you, taller.
Hay mas puras que tu, mas puras. There are purer ones than you, purer.
Hay mas bellas que tu, hay mas bellas. There are lovelier than you, lovelier.
Pero tu eres la reina. But you are the queen.
Cuando vas por las calles When you go through the streets
Nadie te reconoce. No one recognizes you.
Nadie ve tu corona de cristal, nadie mira No one sees your crystal crown, no one looks
La alfombra de oro rojo At the carpet of red gold
Que pisas cuando pasas, That you tread as you pass,
La alfombra que no existe. The non existant carpet.
Y cuando asomas And when you appear
Suenan todos los rios All the rivers sound
En mi cuerpo, sacuden In my body, bells
El cielo las campanas, shake the sky,
Y uno himno llena el mundo. and a hymn fills the world
Solo tu y yo, Only you and I,
Solo tu y yo, amor mío, Only you and I, my love
lo escuchamos. Listen to it.
