Insomnia Cookies

It's that time again.. That time when professors believe themselves gods and assume that we're all brilliant and don't have social lives outside of their classrooms and assigning you an exam the week of spring break with four days notice is okay. Well professor, it's not okay and I do have a social life in case you were wondering. I bet you don't.

I can't remember when I first got introduced to Insomnia Cookies but I know I owe it to my dear friend Emma and our craving one night for something sweet. Her pantries were empty, naturally, when you're hungry that's how it works.

It's Oscar Time

It's the night that we've all been waiting for since award season started, and let me tell you that I could not be more excited for tonight's Oscars. Not only am I excited for what's sure to be an incredible night of fashion, but I'm also excited to see who's going to win and who's not (sorry kids).

With the couture shows already past us in January, there are sure to be some exciting pieces on tonight's red carpet, as I'm hoping for stellar looks from Naomi Watts, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Kerri Washington, Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Chastain.

Although it's Sunday, what better way to celebrate the Oscar's than with your friends of course. Although its not Friday or Saturday, that doesn't mean we can't indulge in a cocktail.. or two.

Goodnight, World.

I tend to lose a lot of things in life. I've lost friends, that was hard, it still is. I've lost rings that one might consider meaningless but I considered priceless. I've lost loves, people I thought would be in my life forever and happened to disappear from one day to the next. I've lost family, a great man who was the center of my world, who's smile brightened my day. I've lost opportunities to be great, to travel, to experience life. I've lost hope, when things have been dark and I've wanted to crawl into a little hole and never come out.

But I guess I've never lost sight of myself because despite all these things that I've lost I've found many many more. I've found friends who love me for who I am despite all the times I've messed up. I've found treasures that I will cherish for as long as they remain mine. I've found people who have become the extended family I occasionally wish I had..and occasionally wish I could punch. I've found opportunities in places I would not have expected and I've found that life is great. I'm single (don't always love that), I'm young (relatively speaking), I'm smart (or so my mother tells me), and I'm rather attractive (or so I've been led to believe.. except sometimes I'm vain and know I am.)

Burberry Fall 2013

It really is a a shame that the Burberry show couldn't have fallen on Valentine's day during NYFW. Instead, viewers had to wait to get a glimpse of this marvelous collection during the first few days of LFW. In a collection titled "Trench Kisses," Christopher Bailey wowed audiences with a twist on classic Burberry looks.

Rihanna - Stay ft. Mikky Ekko

I'm pretty sure this is one of my favorites, if not my favorite, on Rihanna's album "Unapologetic." Its emotional and gut wrenching and just makes you feel. She's bearing her soul in this song. Most people believe its about Chris Brown and I'd wager that they're probably correct. I'll never understand what made her run back to him after all that happened with him in the past, and I won't make excuses for that kind of behavior, but I will say that when you love someone, really truly love someone, sometimes the hardest thing is staying away.

NYFW III

Finally everyone, more pictures from individual shows have surfaced and there are some collections I'm really really really swooning over! What a morning to wake up to..

Sharing the Love

Agent Provocateur Classics: Valentine's Night

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I'm sure all of you are vying for that one special guy to ask you to be his Valentine. There are hopes of a romantic dinner, beautiful flowers, and maybe even a present. I, for one, doubt that there will be a tall, dark, and handsome, man in my life this Valentines day...but that won't deter me from celebrating with all my single-lady friends (cue the Beyonce)! Who knows, I might even have an "I Hate Valentine's Day" fete with my so-called single-lady friends and drink the night away with my even better friends, Moet and Chandon.

The Grammys

Last night's Grammys were B-A-N-A-N-A-S. The performances were spot on and the fashion was to die for, despite CBS's little memo about covering up and having no slip ups. Sorry CBS, I think they all got your memo but decided to ignore it, I know I would have. There was so much I loved about the Grammys it's hard to decide where to begin.. The performances by Rihanna and Mikky Ekko, JT and Jay-Z, Mumford and Sons, Miguel ft. Wiz Khalifa, Elton John and Kelly Clarkson were absolutely amazing. I consider this to be one of the best Grammys ever. Oh and who could forget the performance in honor of Bob Marley. It was amazing and Rihanna stole the show with her second third look of the night.

Lets start with the fashion though. Rihanna stole the show. There's no question about it. Her custom made dress by Azzedine Alaïa was breath-taking. The minute she showed up on the red carpet I couldn't breathe. I'm so glad she went with a look like this - her hair (which is finally normal again) was perfect. Her accessories, which were minimalistic and diamonds, of course, only complemented the femininity of her dress. It was the most mature and glamorous attire I've seen on her in quite some time and it proves that albite being the queen of on-the-street style, she can also stun in an airy gown such as this one.

Katy Perry stunned too, in a dress by Gucci. As "conservative" as most of the features of her dress were, the central focus kept viewers gaga with joy. She really does have a great boobs. Sorry I'm not sorry that I just said that. Moving onto JLo. She really said F*** you to the memo from CBS, giving them a leg up in her Anthony Vacarello gown. I wasn't a huge fan but I did love her makeup and top-knot. Irrespective of what she's wearing, the woman always stuns. She's flawless.

Girls Recap

I don't usually do this but after watching last night's episode of Girls on HBO I felt compelled to write something. As much of the episode was focused on Hannah, it really opened itself up to questions and thoughts people have about relationships and about life. It also really got me to question what it is that I want out of life and made me reflect on past actions and past decisions.

In analyzing this episode, I realized that Hannah found herself lost in a version of what she hoped her life could be like. Last episode we had previews into Marnie, Shosh, and Jessa's relationships but what about Hannah? We were able to see the strife that all of the other girls go through but I guess Lena Dunham had other plans for her character. In all honesty, we only really grace the surface of all of Hannah's "relationships" throughout the episodes and it was time we really got under her skin.

NYFW II

As more collections have begun to surface despite Nemo's best attempts at raining on NYFW's parade, I can't help but swoon over some of the pieces that I've seen! While some collections have remained dark, and I do mean dark, for fall (Altazurra, Alexander Wang, and Helmut Lang) there are others that have gotten me excited for the prospect of Fall 2013 like Mara Hoffman and Prabal Gurung. While Mara is more within my price range, I can still covet Prabal and hope that they'll end up on the sale racks of Neiman Marcus so that one day they may grace the shelves of my closet.

Here we have Mara Hoffman, who has, as usual, incorporated bold colors into her designs as the inspiration for her collection came from a band of roving thieves, tramps, and gypsies. Bright colors like turquoise, pink, and yellow give the prints an optical appeal, allowing them to pop with the black background they been featured against. The idea that she hasn't restricted herself to merely leather and wool like some other designers allows people living in all sort of climates to purchase her pieces and really get use out of them. This is me obviously referring to her flowy floor-length dresses and caftans that were my favorite parts of the collection. I also love her use of geometrical prints and the random leopard and zebra aspects that were incorporated into some of her other pieces. All in all I believe that she had a well rounded collection, something that can transgress throughout the seasons.

NYFW I

As much as I wish that I could have made my flight to NYC this weekend, snowstorm Nemo had other plans for me. Even though I wasn't going to any shows, just being in NYC this weekend with all the fashion energy would have been amazing to say the least. I've satisfied myself with photo recaps of the shows and to be quite honest, I've not been impressed with some of my favorite designers. Helmut Lang and Rag&Bone have totally disappointed me, with heavy and dull colors and lots of un-flattering (in my opinion) jackets and blazers that I could never see myself wearing. On a more positive note, there is a collection that I did fall in love with, one I would have never expected to see myself wearing.. Keep reading to find out.

En Ti La Tierra

Pequeña
rosa,
rosa pequeña,
a veces,
diminuta y desnuda,
parece,
que en una mano mia
cabes,
que así voy a cerrarte
y llevarte en mi boca,
pero
de pronto
mis pies tocan tus pies y mi boca tus labios:
has crecido,

Karen Walker Sunnies

Who doesn't love a great pair of sunglasses? I know I do, coming from living in tropical weather and all. So it's no surprise that I've fallen head over heels for Karen Walker's Spring 2013 line of eponymous sunglasses.

After launching the brand in 1988, the New Zealand based designer has won over the heads and minds of many fashionistas and sunglasses enthusiasts alike. Her designs are bold and weird, yet chic at the same time. She's enjoyed playing with different styles and juxtaposing masculine and feminine, luxurious and casual, and edgy and sweet to make shades that suit everyone's varied tastes.

Mr. Marc

I've always had a fascination with Marc Jacobs, before he got all sexy and buff and started wearing kilts. I knew he had an eye for fashion despite how he groomed himself in the past. I mean we weren't ALL born with a fashion sense, some people develop it as they go along and I guess Marc was just a late bloomer.

As one of the most powerful gay men in the fashion industry, Marc is the head designer for Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs (his diffusion line, my favorite), and the creative direction of French fashion power house Louis Vuitton since 1997. The things that he has accomplished are absolutely incredible, its really motivating to see someone who has worked so hard on so many projects simultaneously and has still managed to come out on top. It's a real American success story.

Flower Power

With Ultra (Music Festival) so close, I've been looking into what I want to wear and I know for sure I want to bring some flower power to my outfit. While brainstorming I found some amazing flower crown ideas that I might just have to try and put together!

This Will Have Been: Art, Love, and Politics in the 1980's

For all you art lovers here in Boston I've got a treat for you.. The ICA (The Institute of Contemporary Art) presents the first major US museum retrospective devoted to the art of the 1980's.

Organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the exhibit titled "This Will Have Been: Art, Love, and Politics in the 1980's," is an ambitious presentation that represents the diverse and complex art that was produced throughout the 1980's. The 80's were considered a transformative decade in the history of art, music, and politics beginning with new regimes of world power personified in the US by President Ronald Reagan, in the UK by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and in Germany by Chancellor Helmut Kohl. They ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, and the repudiation of the Reagan-Thatcher era signaled by the elections of Bill Clinton in the US and Tony Blair in the UK.

Baddie Bey

That's One Bad Bitch (In a good way, obviously.)

Music Monday - Only Love

It's been one of those days when everything around you is moving at a thousand miles per hour and you can't seem to slow down or get a grip on what's going out.. I wish I had more hours in the day to do the things I wanted to do.. or even the things I need to do.. those seem to be on the back burner lately.
