NYFW II

As more collections have begun to surface despite Nemo's best attempts at raining on NYFW's parade, I can't help but swoon over some of the pieces that I've seen! While some collections have remained dark, and I do mean dark, for fall (Altazurra, Alexander Wang, and Helmut Lang) there are others that have gotten me excited for the prospect of Fall 2013 like Mara Hoffman and Prabal Gurung. While Mara is more within my price range, I can still covet Prabal and hope that they'll end up on the sale racks of Neiman Marcus so that one day they may grace the shelves of my closet.

Here we have Mara Hoffman, who has, as usual, incorporated bold colors into her designs as the inspiration for her collection came from a band of roving thieves, tramps, and gypsies. Bright colors like turquoise, pink, and yellow give the prints an optical appeal, allowing them to pop with the black background they been featured against. The idea that she hasn't restricted herself to merely leather and wool like some other designers allows people living in all sort of climates to purchase her pieces and really get use out of them. This is me obviously referring to her flowy floor-length dresses and caftans that were my favorite parts of the collection. I also love her use of geometrical prints and the random leopard and zebra aspects that were incorporated into some of her other pieces. All in all I believe that she had a well rounded collection, something that can transgress throughout the seasons.

Next up, one of my new favorite designers Prabal Gurung, who besides working on his main collection has also been working on a lower priced line named ICB and also a collaboration with Target called the "Love Collection," which I had blogged about earlier. With all he has going on, it's hard to believe what a fluid collection he was able to present in New York yesterday. He look was that of a sexy woman ready to take on the world, with military influences as dictated by his choice of color palette - navy blue, army green, black, with a few pieces in off-white and red. What I couldn't get enough of were his bad-ass shoes. Any woman who can manage those should be able to manage much more. The designs, while a bit masculine, also radiated pure sexuality billowy sleeves, thigh high slits, cut-outs, and a stunning off the shoulder look which is my favorite so far. Prabal is definitely going places.

Cheers! The Aristochic
