First up is Diane Von Furstenberg, who went back to her 70's roots and brought back to the runway one of my favorite pieces - the jumpsuit! There were tons of fabulous prints and vibrant colors, showing that fall doesn't have to be all about black, brown, and navy, you can have fun with it too! While disco filled the ears of show-goers, DVF filled the runway with chic halter dresses, slinky jersey dresses, and blouses that could have fit right in at Studio 54 just as they'll fit in as soon as they hit the stores in a few months. It's a collection I'm really looking forward to considering I've got a dear friend who's a DVF specialist back home at my favorite Neimans!
Next, one of my all-time favorite designers - Philip Lim. I've been a fan for years. I remember buying my first dress of his at Nordstrom like 6 years ago maybe? I still love it and always grab it on a warm summer day with a pair of colorful sandals and a big pair of sunnies.
Today, Philip Lim has become one of the hottest tickets at NYFW and in its own right, considering those in the fashion industry love to wear his pieces head to toe - I do too. They're young and fun and fit absolutely amazing. For this upcoming season Lim presented fashion fans with a multitude of options for all his fashion followers alike! There were side-zipped tops, moto vests, layered coats and slouchy tapered pants for his downtown crowd and luxe cross-body bags and chiffon dresses with sparkles at the neck for his uptown fans. There were also crazy cool embellished denim pieces with custom made patches - perfect for the street style crowd! And I also absolutely fell in love with his over-the-knee sandal boots. Can you say fab?? Check it all out below..
Looks like the 70's are back in a big way, with big hair and big prints and bold designs at Marc by Marc Jacobs. Even the maestro himself finished off the show in a tartan jumpsuit of his own. There were jewel tone colors that were to die for, lots of gorgeous silk, slim-cut crew neck t-shirt blouses and wide-legged cropped pants or high-waisted secretary skirts reminiscent of Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver. I for one am a fan of the jumpsuit modeled by Cara Delevingne.
Last, but not least, is Theyskens' Theory, who has had standout collections since Oliver Theyskens came into the scene with his eponymous line which at first began as a collaboration with Theory. The collection is one I could really see myself in, as it features a lot of volume, focusing on blazers and sweaters over short skirts with knee high boots. The hair and details were simple so as to not distract from the amazing show he presented. What I loved is that nearly every piece flowed away from the body, yet it still looked sexy and chic, not that over-sized and baggy with that boho "I'm really skinny but I wear everything 4 sizes too big to look cool" vibe.
Cheers! The Aristochic
