Rihanna - Stay ft. Mikky Ekko
I'm pretty sure this is one of my favorites, if not my favorite, on Rihanna's album "Unapologetic." Its emotional and gut wrenching and just makes you feel. She's bearing her soul in this song. Most people believe its about Chris Brown and I'd wager that they're probably correct. I'll never understand what made her run back to him after all that happened with him in the past, and I won't make excuses for that kind of behavior, but I will say that when you love someone, really truly love someone, sometimes the hardest thing is staying away.
What I love the most about the music video is the simplicity of it. She's in a bathtub, raw, shed from all her disguises, this is something personal and it really allows one to put themselves in her place. You can see how she's holding back her tears, trying to get herself together.
"It's a very emotional song and it's personal, so you just think about...it's almost like telling a story, and when you tell a story, even to yourself--if you're saying it out loud and expressing how you feel--it needs to be powerful because it needs to be authentic," Rihanna says of the clip.
Featured in the video is co-author of the song, Mikky Ekko, an American singer-songwritter and producer from Louisiana. I think his addition to the song is brilliant.
